Singing lessons with footlights

Hi all,

We have put this pack together to give you a little information about the singing lessons we are hoping to offer on the timetable after October half term.

We have the singing workshop coming up for the students to get a feel for how the singing lessons may run but here are all the bits you need to know to allow us to get lessons on the timetable on a more permanent basis.

Where and when will the lessons take place?

We would like to hold the lessons on a Thursday at Ugley village hall to compliment the classes (jazz and musical theatre) that are already on the timetable. In order to run the singing lessons we have slots from 4.00 – 5.30 to fill (if more are interested and the slots fill up I will try and add more in somewhere).

How many will be in each class?

The lessons can be taken as singly, in 2’s, or 3’s. I’m sure you’ll understand the singing lessons are priced differently to the dance classes which are group based. I have checked prices for other singing lessons in and around the area and they are in line if not better than those around.

How much are the lessons?

Solo lesson (30 minutes) – £15

Shared lesson in 2 (30 minutes) – £8

Shared lesson in 3 (30 minutes) - £6

Lessons will be billed half termly as the other lessons on the timetable.

Lesson format

Lessons will follow the format of -

10 minute vocal warm up preparing the voice using breathing techniques, scales exercises for dictation etc and then 20 minutes on technique/song.

In the lesson they will concentrate on musical theatre singing, which includes songs from musicals and films etc.

There is also an option to progress to taking exams under the London College of Music board and their MusicTheatre syllabus. If you would like any more information about the board and what it can offer their website is: http://www.tvu.ac.uk/lcmexams/Welcome.jsp (great point made on their website – once they progress to the higher grades the start to gain UCAS points for university entry)

Who will be teaching the singing lessons?

Sophie Lane who now teaches the Elsenham dance lessons will be teaching the singing lessons for us. Sophie is qualified through the same board mentioned above and is currently teaching singing lesson in 2 other schools across Hertfordshire as well as dance and singing lessons for us.

What do you need to do to get a singing lesson?

If you haven’t already contacted me to say you would like one of the slots please do so either by emailing me at emma@footlightstheatredance.co.uk or using the slip below all slots will be allocated by 11th October so please make sure you have contacted me by then if you are interested.

I hope this has covered any questions you may have but if there is anything else I can help with please do contact me. I hope to see lots of interest in this great opportunity to get some variety on our timetable.

Thanks

Emma
